Middle and High School Read-In By Mallory McKee
This week is Teen Read Week at Whitmire Community School. Today, Middle and High School students left their classes to sit out in the hall and read silently. It was very interesting because everyone was actually quiet for the whole twenty minutes. It is good that we got the chance to just catch up on some reading. This was a very fun activity that should be done more often.

"Love Me Forever" A Personal Poem By Jessica Caswell
I'm finally numb from the world around me. I have been this way since you left me. I feel like I've been running for days. I can't see through the fog to find my way. Feelings are distractions and its hard to block them out.
I close my eyes to go to a new place. I'm standing on the water as you walk towards me. My vision blurs but you're still there. As I get closer I start to sink, the water is rushing and I can't think.
You put me in your arms and hold me tight. I never want you to let me go, especially not tonight. Please don't let me go and love me forever. I will always come to this place and we'll stay this way together.
Open Season By Shelby Riffey
Bow season has officially opened. It opened the 15th of September. All of the licensed hunters that have a bow or a crossbow, need to get in the woods early. Save that big buck for a little on in the season so you can take him when it cools down. You can take a little time to look at the size and thank God for the privilege to be able to hunt these huge deer. Muzzle loader season opened around the beginning of October. Good luck hunting and be safe.
"Valley of Dry Bones" A Personal Poem By Caleb Notter
Where a great army once stood now sits a valley of dry bones that have been stripped of all tendons and flesh. They fought for some great time against an opponent who was a crafty and deceiving Serpent. Their one key flaw as they fought their many battles against this opponent was that they were not fully committed to the war at hand. They seemed to lose focus while they were fighting and lowered their Swords. Today as I gaze out over the valley, a Heavenly Voice is speaking to me telling me to prophesy to them, saying unto them that the Voice will breathe breath into these dry bones that are scattered about the valley floor. Right at the moment I am speaking the words of the Voice to the bones, a great earthquake is taking place right in front of my eyes; the bones are starting to come back together. The men's bones are returning to their owners and now have their flesh and tendons coming back. Now the Voice speaks again telling me to call to the winds, in the Voice's name, to bring breath to the lungs of the hollow soldiers who had once lost their will to fight. Again, when I speak this prophecy is fulfilled as the soldiers have started to breathe and recommit themselves to the fight against the Wicked One. They now know how they had been defeated by their own blindness to the Enemy's attacks and have learned a great lesson from their mistakes. In the near future, they will win many battles against the Evil One and his armies. They shall be freeing a once enslaved and blinded people and opening their eyes to the Truth.

"My Prayer" A Personal Poem By Chris Styles
Dear God, I'm glad you blessed me with no bad friends.
I'm glad you took me off of the streets, and put me in your hands.
I'm glad you saved me because things were getting bad.
When no one was around, you were the only one I had.
I'm glad you blessed me with a place to live and stay.
When things got bad, you picked me up and lead the way.
I'm not asking for anymore, I love my life the way it is.
Talking and seeing you is the only thing I miss.
I loved that day you took my hand walking down the road.
I loved the day you told me, "if you love me let it show".
I miss those days when we were both on our knees.
When I was praying up to you, and you were here with me.
No turning back to the beginning, there is no restart.
When my life comes to an end, I will follow my heart.
I will be seeing you soon, so open those gates.
I'm coming home to my eternal resting place.
AMEN.
I'm glad you took me off of the streets, and put me in your hands.
I'm glad you saved me because things were getting bad.
When no one was around, you were the only one I had.
I'm glad you blessed me with a place to live and stay.
When things got bad, you picked me up and lead the way.

Junior Beta Club News By Ms. R. Morris
Currently, the club is beginning preparations for the state convention in Myrtle Beach in December. Hopes are high to perform well in the various competitions, especially in Living Literature after finishing second place in that particular competition last year.
The Jr. Beta members are also selling World’s Finest Chocolate to raise the necessary funds for the trip. The irresistible chocolate is selling fast!
After the convention, the club will be shifting focus to other aspects of being a Beta and is planning more service-oriented activities around the school and community.
PTSO Update By Mrs. S. Bledsoe
The WCS Parent-Teacher-Student Organization is collecting Box Tops for Education. The small "coupons" can be found on many common food items, like Pillsbury Toaster Strudels and Old El Paso taco products. Just clip the box top and send it to school.
Each month, an elementary homeroom will be awarded for having collected the most box tops, and at the end of the year, the homeroom raising the most will receive a pizza party!
The PTSO wants to support the students and teachers of WCS, so your help is greatly appreciated.

Athletic Booster Club Wants You By Alana English
Wolverine Parents and Fans,
Through membership fees and various fundraising events, the WHS Athletic Booster Club contributed more than $14,500 in support of WHS Athletic programs last year. None of that would have been possible without the support of our members, volunteers and the community as a whole. Where do the funds go? The school district charges each school for the use of the athletic buses used to transport our Wolverine athletes to their various events and competitions. The booster club pays the travel expenses on behalf of the athletic department. Last year’s travel expenses totaled $9,568. The booster club also has a long-standing tradition of providing letterman (Block-W) jackets at no cost to all eligible senior athletes. Last year, jackets were provided for 21 athletes at a cost of $2572. Additional funds were provided to assist in the purchase of girls basketball uniforms and equipment for girls and boys spring sports.
Our annual WHS Athletic Booster Club membership drive is now underway, and I would like to invite you to join. In addition to supporting the athletic programs, membership also has its advantages. Most membership levels include free admission to all regular season home athletic events for each listed member. With 40 or more home events this year the total cost of admission to all events would be approximately $200 per person. An individual member can save over $100 per year on admission costs. For families, the savings is even greater!!
If you would like to join, please complete an application form (see page 6 of this newsletter) and return it with payment to the address shown. Your membership cards will be mailed or delivered upon receipt.
On behalf of the Booster Club officers, the WHS Athletic department and all the Wolverine athletes, I would like to say THANK YOU for your support, and we look forward to seeing you at a Wolverine athletic event soon!! If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at 803-694-2475 or email whs_booster@charter.net.
Sincerely,
Wayne Boulware
Booster Club President
