The Effects of Sunlight by Caleb Notter

It may be summer, but I can't feel the heat at all.
My heart, if you can call it that anymore, has grown colder than the Arctic in the fall.
I've barricaded myself inside of my mind in order to keep from being hurt one more time.
For so long I let my fears control my life, but now I fear nothing except the Holy One.
This one reason is why I've decided to step back into the light of the Son.
From past memories, I can never remember when the Son didn't bring warmth to my soul.
I never want to go back to standing alone in the cold.

2010 Summer Cheer Camp at WCS By Alana English

On June 24, 2010, Whitmire varsity and junior varsity cheerleaders spent the day learning cheers, dances, and new names with two UCA cheerleaders. This year's camp was held at the Whitmire Community School Gymnasium. The UCA cheerleaders taught us everything we needed to know about cheerleading! Varsity and junior varsity worked together, doing their best to make camp fun for everyone. We played games like "chicken in the hen house" which was really enjoyable. Even though we all woke up bright and early, I think everyone was ready to meet our UCA instructors! These two girls were college students with at least five years of cheering experience behind them. Their expertise was greatly appreciated. UCA camp was extremely fun, I can't wait for next year.

Paint Me Like I Am by Jessica Rice

People laugh at me,
but I just say, "Paint me like I am."
My dream will come true one day
when people least think it will.
I take chances everyday, but when people come my way,
I just say, "Paint me like I am."
I might be saying paint me like I am because am complex.
My hues are blue, red, pink, and green,
but most of all, I am black.
So paint me like I am.

Wolverines Host First Game of the Season By Shelby Riffey

Shelby Riffey, sports journalist

Whitmire Wolverines went against Ridge Spring-Moneta last Friday night.  Despite difficulties in the first half, the Wolverines put up a good fight and held the Trojans in the 3rd and 4th quarter.  We may have lost that night but we held our heads high.  The Whitmire Wolverines have another chance to redeem themselves against Mid-Carolina High School on August 27th at 7:30 p.m.  Good luck boys!
